For those in SD 60, if the school your child attends usually starts the day at 9:00 a.m., Monday’s schedule is running 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.

However, Superintendent of SD 60, Dave Sloan says it may be in parent’s best interest to contact your specific school to ensure an accurate account of the start and finish time.

As per the regular first day of school, buses will picking up students on Monday and are completely aware of the change to the schedule.

“Basically, September 22nd is the new September 2nd,” Sloan explained.

For parents with kindergarten children, each school will have its own routines, programs and procedures for their introductory element, many of whom may condense the two weeks into one, but all kindergarten programs will be offering full day instruction by Friday, September 26th.

Sloan goes on to say that the school year will not be lengthened as a result of the strike, as the Christmas and Spring break schedules will remain the same.

“Schools will take steps to balance their semesters to ensure all students have sufficient instruction time. No additional days will be added to the school year,” Sloan said in a written statement. “Details on any changes will be made available over the next few weeks.”

Graduating students in grade 12 will also be presented with the opportunity to write their first set of provincial exams sometime at the beginning of February to accommodate the shift in schedule.

Sloan adds, “Now we’ve got the negotiated settlement that everybody was calling for, so it’s time to get down to work and do the best we can for the parents and children of this district.”
